Linux Week

July 12, 2026, noon
Alright, this is Linux week. I set up my workstation as a Linux box last week but have been working out of my bedroom instead of the office so I could keep just one room air conditioned. But now I've installed Ubuntu on my gaming laptop that I have hooked up in the bedroom.
My current workload is C++ code, Unreal Engine Editor, and Blender. I am going to force myself to do all these from Linux this week. If I run into a problem I'll try to solve it instead of just giving up and saying "Linux isn't ready yet!"
I have strong misgivings as to whether Windows 12 will be what it needs to be instead of what they want it to be. The landscape has changed. Windows doesn't need to be a feature creep, it can just be a solid, non-memory-hog OS that runs well on 8GB of RAM. Microsoft has always planned for how powerful computers will be when their OS releases - but can they also take into account that computers might be LESS powerful in the future?
Anyways, that's the news from Rogers Park.
